Overview
Roots International Primary Years Programme (RI-PYP) is an educational framework that is designed to provide a challenging and engaging learning experience for children aged 5-11 years old. The programme is based on the principles & practices of Pearson Education and is implemented by Roots International Schools in Pakistan.
The RI-PYP curriculum is designed to foster holistic development of children, and focuses on the acquisition of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values. The programme aims to develop students who are knowledgeable, caring, reflective, and independent learners. The RI-PYP curriculum is organized around six transdisciplinary themes, which are explored through units of inquiry:
- Who we are
- Where we are in place and time
- How we express ourselves
- How the world works
- How we organize ourselves
- Sharing the planet
The RI-PYP also emphasizes the development of key concepts, such as form, function, causation, change, connection, and perspective. In addition, the programme emphasizes the development of learner profiles, which include attributes such as inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded, balanced, and reflective.
The RI-PYP is implemented through a student-centered approach, which encourages active inquiry, critical thinking, and problem-solving. The programme emphasizes the use of a range of teaching strategies, including hands-on learning, collaboration, and reflection. The assessment of student learning is based on a range of strategies, including self-assessment, peer assessment, and teacher assessment.
